For my free reading book I have chosen to read A Million Little Pieces. It is about the life of a drug addict before he gets sober. Drug addiction is a serious problem among people of all ages in America. Currently, 23 million Americans are addicted to drugs and alcohol. Marijuana is the most popular drug on the market followed by prescription drugs in high school. Especially on the north shore, prescription and designer drug abuse is popular. The book was featured on the TV show Oprah; she loved the book and recommended it to her followers. The author James Frey admitted that the book was not completely true and Oprah flipped out on James. Apparently, she had figured that the story about a drug addict, who openly states that he has many blackouts, was one hundred percent true. Obviously, her ideas are a little farfetched. I think that it is unrealistic for her to think that every book she reads is completely true. Even our school text books can’t claim to be completely true. She smashes his book now and I feel that is wrong. Even though every account in the novel may not be true, the overall message is true valid. Drugs can ruin a person’s life no matter how careful the users are. Anyway, the book starts off with James waking up bloodied on an air plane.
